Ops View: Connecting Transit Authorities with Riders and Workers

Light trail of the train

In large metropolitan areas like Los Angeles, Washington DC, and New York City, transit authorities may need to reach out to the public and let riders know about sweeping changes coming to their routes. With Telephone Town Hall Meetings, riders are able to express their concerns to the folks in charge, the transit authority personnel are able to collect important contact data from their audience, and the experienced staff at TTHM is able to keep the event running seamlessly the whole time.

TTHM also produces forums that allow for the drivers and other transit workers to meet virtually with their employer from wherever they are. When I have the opportunity to work these calls, I’m impressed by how much information is able to be shared in just an hour. The amount of questions that we are able to process and answer, and the amount of personal contact information that makes its way through the forum is incredible.

With the free web registration page, and text alerts that go out prior to the event, the transit authority putting the event on knows that the forum will be well attended with a very engaged and prepared audience. Other add-ons like patch-throughs can help keep the call moving along smoothly even when there are many actions the audience can take. Making sure the entire population of riders can understand the event is simple when an Alternate Language Simulcast is added to the telephone town hall

Whether there are new routes being added to a bus, rail, or tram system, or a poll is needed to find out what employees are concerned about, a virtual forum is a great way to reach a mass audience. TTHM also offers webinar integration, so if there is a presentation that would enhance the telephone town hall, that can be done easily through Zoom, WebEx, or another provider of your choice.
